Presbytery of Westminster Recognizes Dr. Fraser

Among Presbyterians,new ministers in part-time positions are recognized by the Presbytery to whom they are accountable.  In the case of Brentwood Presbyterian Church,that’s the Presbytery of Westminster.  It’s a council of teaching and ruling elders representing congregations from Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.  The recognition service for the Rev. Dr. Brian Fraser was held on Sunday,March 14.  The choir of Burnaby Taiwanese Presbyterian Church led the music,along with Brentwood’s own Director of Music,Dr. Allan Cline.   The Rev. Jim Smith of Central Presbyterian Church,formerly Interim Moderator at Brentwood,conducted the service.  The Rev. Dr. Stephen Farris,who succeeded Brian as Dean of St. Andrew’s Hall,the Presbyterian college at UBC,preached the sermon and charge,encouraging the congregation and minister to be genuine friends in the Gospel with each other.  The Rev. Dr. Sylvia Cleland,moderator of the Presbytery,and the Rev. Diane Tait-Katerberg,acting Clerk of the Presbytery,conducted the recognition.  A reception followed featuring a broad selection of Brentwood’s famous goodies.
