Read &Reflect –Romans 8:12-17 –It Takes a Community

June 3 is Trinity Sunday in the Christian tradition.  We consider and celebrate the community of Father,Son,and Holy Spirit that creates, redeems, and sustains us in full and flourishing life,a life that is filled with the glory/energy of the divine love seen most clearly in Jesus Christ.  We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper this coming Sunday as well.  We encourage you to join us in worship on June 3 at 9:45AM.  You will be warmly welcomed into this community.

May this reading and the reflections sparked by it be a blessing to you and your communities as you face the opportunities and challenges of your life.

12 So then,my friends,we have an obligation, but it is not to live as our human nature wants us to.  13 For if you live according to your human nature, you are going to die;but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful actions, you will live.  14 Those who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s children.  15 For the Spirit that God has given you does not make you slaves and cause you to be afraid;instead, the Spirit makes you God’s children, and by the Spirit’s power we cry out to God,“Father! my Father!”

16 God’s Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God’s children.  17 Since we are his children,we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him;for if we share Christ’s suffering,we will also share his glory.

Here’s are a couple of questions for your consideration:

What actions in your daily life would indicate that you are living in the Spirit of Christ’s glory/energy?  What impact would those actions have on the communities in which you live – family, neighbours, colleagues at work or at school, groups with whom you volunteer?
